Letters to a Young Generation

3D-Book-LTAYG2

I am delighted to reveal that I have contributed to an important new book
Letters to a Young Generation – Part Two compiled by Amanda Wilson
The book features a compilation of letters written by successful black women to black girls, offering advice and inspiration on how to make it as an entrepreneur or leader today.
“I urge young females across the nation to read this book and go out and grab the world by the lapels.” Kanya King, MBE, founder of the MOBO Awards.
When a black girl struggles to get into a nightclub solely because of the colour of her skin, what hope does she have of cracking the world of business or the world of arts? Letters to a Young Generation – Part Two has perhaps never been timelier. Editor Amanda Wilson noticed a lack of gritty, real life messages from black women to black girls in the UK, and thought a book of letters sharing experiences would be powerful. She approached Kanya King, creator of the MOBOS and one of Radio 4 Women’s Hour ‘Most Powerful Women’, to write the foreword, and the offers to help came pouring in. Contributors include MOBO award winner Ms Dynamite, singer and celebrity Sinitta, Annmarie Lewis – the first black female prison officer at Feltham Young Offenders Institute, National Ambassador for Domestic Violence Jenni Steele, TV presenter Leah Charles-King, myself and many more.
Amanda says: “For the first time black girls in the UK have their own manual that helps answer ‘How do I own being who I am? How do I make things happen for me?’ I couldn’t be prouder of the project.”
Letters to a Young Generation – Part Two is published by 9:10 Publishing RRP £6.99 ISBN 9780957136762
Author biography: Amanda Wilson is a deputy head teacher at a primary school in South East London. She also owns 9:10 Publishing and published her first novel Karaoke Praise the Lord in 2012. She published Letters to a Young Generation – Part One, where black men gave advice to black teenaged boys, to wide approval, and the text is now used as a mentoring tool in London schools. Letters to a Young Generation – Part Two is its companion publication.

Nadine Juignet
Hewlett Packard

“From the moment I started reading Rocking Your Role I was totally absorbed, recognising so many of the issues that Jenny refers to within this clearly written and practical book. She takes the reader on a journey which makes you question so many things about yourself but in a way that energises you to step back and think about your work life balance, and the importance of being honest with yourself and those around you. It will resonate with successful women, especially those who are the female breadwinners, in all areas of life.”

Pim Baxter
National Portrait Gallery

“Jenny Garrett charts the rise of the female main earner (ME) in her highly engaging exploration of female breadwinners. That a fifth of women in the UK now earn more than their partners is significant, yet we hear little about this. Garrett’s book illustrates why this is something we should celebrate, and yet we are resistant to do so.This book is an invaluable and inspiring source for those who will, either through choice or by chance, embark on this exciting route. She offers advice and space to reflect and challenges one of the modern day taboos.”

London MEP
